Sasuke woke lazily to the rays of the early sun. He glared at the light for a moment, pissed that he had been awaken from such a nice dream. Sighing, knowing sleep was lost; he sat up in a ruffled but technically upright position. Pale fingers swept through his mess of black hair, pulling it back from his face for a moment before it flopped back in front of his eyes. He stared out the window, letting himself remember the dream for a moment.
It was a memory, an old one. The first time he had met Naruto. He sighed, remembering how later Naruto had disappeared within rhyme or reason, one day he just wasn't there. To be truthful he had turned cold after Naruto left. Since then he hadn't given anyone else a chance, turned extremely antisocial, especially in school. For some reason his attitude had achieved him the status of one of the most popular boys in school without him even speaking a word.
He swung his legs over the edge of the bed and walked over to the closet. After getting dress in his usual black attire he brushed his teeth, brushed out his hair, and grabbed his bag, not feeling like breakfast.
At school he took his usual seat in the back. A gaggle of girls stood a couple of rows away, giggling and pointing at him. He ignored him, favoring the view out the window to them. Sometime later a girl with pink hair dragged up the courage to walk up to him. He didn't even bother to look at her until she had spoken.
"Hi," was her very timid greeting.
He turned to look at her, his eyes bored. She continued without waiting for his response, speaking too quickly.
"How are you today Sasuke-kun? Isn't it a beautiful day? What are you doing later?" she panted slightly at the end of her outburst.
He sighed and rolled his eyes. Just as he was about to answer the bell rang, shooing everyone to his seat. He cupped his cheek in his hand, turning his attention for the board for a moment before turning his attention back to the world beyond the window.
"Class," Kakashi-sensi said. "Today we have a new student."
He flickered his eyes back to the teacher, watching as the white haired man ushered someone in, a boy.
"Would you like to introduce yourself to the class?" Kakashi-sensi asked the boy.
He studied the boy. The boy was dressed in black pants with a black and orange hoodie up. White trimming hid the boys face from view. The boy had his head ducked, hands shoved deep in pockets, the general vibe of 'stay away' emanated from the boy.
"No," the boy said curtly. Sensei looked taken back then smiled.
"Come on, no one here is going to judge you," Sensei said.
He scoffed; of course everyone was going to judge the newcomer. This was high school; everything was based off of false judgments.
The boy growled softly, the sound barely reaching him. "Fine,"
"There we go," Kakashi said encouragingly. "Stand front and center to everyone can see you,"
The boy walked to the center, head still down. "My name is Naruto."
He gasped. Could this boy be… no, he couldn't be the same Naruto he knew. Yet, a faint wish still made his heart flutter.
"Tell us why you're here. What are some of your hobbies?" Kakashi suggested.
The boy sighed, looking as though he would rather be anywhere else. The pink haired girl who had talked to him earlier leaned over to talk to her friend, Ino maybe?
"I am here because I was transferred here." Naruto said. Naruto then turned to look at Sensei. "May I sit down now?" the words more of a command than a question.
"Of course," Kakashi-sensei said, "Choose any free seat."
Naruto, keeping his head down, walked down the aisle. He watched the boy, wondering what he looked like. So far he had yet to glimpse the face of the boy. He wondered why Naruto was allowed to keep his hoodie on, they weren't allowed in school.
Naruto made his way to the back of the room, careful not to touch anyone. Several legs shot out to trip the boy but Naruto just jumped over them. As Naruto passed by his seat he caught a glimpse of two bright blue eyes. He gasped, those eyes, that unnatural color. Could it be…?
Naruto sat down a couple of seats away from him, in the only place surrounded by empty desk. Throughout the period he glanced at the new boy, trying to tell whether it was his Naruto, but the boy never raised his head enough for him to see anything besides a nose.
Everyone besides himself and the boy jumped up as the bell rang. The gaggle of girls that had annoyed him this morning was looking as though they were going to do a lunch shift too. He looked over at the boy, who was just sitting there, arms crossed over his chest, hood pulled low.
He was surprised to see one of the girls, Hinata, point to Naruto and blush before whispering something to Ino.
The pink haired girl from before was back, waiting at the edge of his desk. "Hi," she said.
He sighed, not wanting to deal with this right now. "What do you want?"
"I was wondering are you doing anything later?" the girl asked.
"Why do you care?" he said.
"Well, I, um, would you like to go somewhere with me?" she asked.
He looked at her, assessing her. Too big a forehead, too small a chest, not enough figure.
"What's your name?" he asked.
"Sakura," the girl, Sakura, said.
"I have no interest in hanging out with you later, Sakura," he said.
Sakura's face fell slightly before forming a small smile. "Alright, maybe another day then." Before he could shoot down her dream she was gone, back into the folds of her little group.
He looked back over at the boy, surprised to see he was gone. Confused, he stood up, eyes racing around the room. The tail end of an orange and black jacket whipped out of sight beyond the door. He walked quickly to the door, shoving past several people, in time to see Naruto lope down stairs of the high school, hands still shoved in his pockets.
"Wait," he called, speeding up to catch the boy. The boy slowed slightly before stopping.
"What do you want?" the boy asked as he caught up with the other.
"Naruto?" he asked hesitantly, trying to peer inside the hood.
Naruto ducked his head even further. "Yeah?" Naruto asked.
"Do you…Can I see your face?" he asked, switching questions.
Naruto sighed and lifted his head. He stifled a gasp as he saw the familiar face. It was the same as he had remembered, except for three scratches on each of his cheeks that looked as though they had been burned into his skin.
"Naruto…" he whispered.
"What?" Naruto snapped. "Is that all, or can I go now?"
He was surprised by Naruto's hostile behavior. When they had been kids Naruto had always been so sweet, so kind, even if he was timid. Now, now Naruto was unfriendly and harsh. What had happened to him?
"Yeah, I just thought that you were someone I used to know," he lied, suddenly not wanting to mention him knowing Naruto. He was scared that Naruto had forgotten him, or maybe was even mad at him for some reason.
Something wavered in those blue eyes, so quickly that he was sure he had imagined it.
"Whatever," Naruto said, turning back around.
"Where are you going?" he asked. "The bell's about to ring,"
"Whatever," Naruto said again, walking away. He watched the orange receding jacket, wishing he was brave enough to call Naruto, but fear held him back.
Instead he scowled and walked back to the classroom. Of course Sakura assaulted him again as he walked in the door, but he brushed her off, grateful when the bell rang. For the rest of the day he couldn't stop thinking about Naruto. It was the same one, he was sure of it, but did Naruto remember him? It was such a long time ago. Naruto had probably forgotten him by now. If Naruto had remembered, wouldn't he say something? Should he just ask Naruto? No, he wasn't going to make a fool of himself for some daydream. Besides, he was too busy to concern himself with such trivial things.
And yet, he couldn't help feeling hollow inside…

Naruto hadn't shown up for school by the end of the day. He walked home, trying not to think of the blue eyed boy. Still, it was hard, considering that Naruto had been his first, and only, love.
Once home he saw that his parents were gone today. He wasn't surprised, they were always gone. The maids were still there, cleaning the house, but they would be gone in a few minutes too. He decided to let the cook and butler go home early, telling them that he had a lot of homework and that he would eat leftovers.
After everyone was gone he tromped up the stairs up to his bedroom and locked himself in there. He fell face first on the bed, feeling drained. The blinds had been closed throughout the course of the day and now he was locked within an artificial night.
"Naruto…" he muttered into blankets, voice muffled. He grabbed his pillow and hugged it, hiding half of his face in the soft plush.
How could have Naruto have changed so much since then? What had happened to Naruto? Was it his fault? He had promised to protect Naruto…
Growling ever so slightly he sulked, hating these thoughts running round and round his head. He didn't know what to do. He wanted to tell Naruto about their past together, their little vows, but he knew he shouldn't. Even if he wasn't scared of being forgotten by Naruto he knew his parents wouldn't approve of Naruto. Naruto was an orphan, trash according to his parents. Besides, his parents didn't care about friends, his parents were only concerned about him taking over the family business and producing an heir. Of course, to produce an heir that meant intercourse with someone of the opposite sex. He knew that if he didn't find someone to marry he's parents were going to choose one, not that he really cared either way.
He huffed, blowing the air from his face as he rolled onto his back, pillow still hugged to his chest. His brother, Itachi, was lucky. Itachi had gotten to fall in love with whoever he wanted. Personally he wouldn't mind, but Itachi had fallen in love with a tranny named Orochimaru, meaning that Itachi wouldn't be able to produce an heir, so now it was his responsibility.
What if I wanted to be gay too? He thought spitefully, now really meaning it. I mean, I don't really have much interest in girls, or boys either, or people, but I still could be gay… maybe…
He sighed, how was he so incompetent with others. They should have a class teaching how to interact with others. On second thought, he would never go to that class anyways so would it be no use. Besides, the only person he really wanted to interact with was Naruto and he had already failed miserably at that.
"Naruto," he sung softly under his breath. Naruto had left him, he remembered that. The day they were going to celebrate his birthday Naruto had left, not even saying goodbye. That was another reason why he shouldn't remind Naruto of him. Naruto probably left for a reason. If Naruto had been moved foster parents he would have said goodbye at least.
I'll just ignore him, he shrugged. If Naruto was going to ignore him then why not ignore him back. Anyways, any history they had together had happened a long time ago. What was that saying again? Leave the past behind? Yeah, that was it. Maybe it was time that he should start listening to that saying.
